E-REDES takes part in EPAL drill

The aim was to test procedures and response times in the event of a power failure at the EPAL site in Lisbon's Parque das Nações.

The E-REDES teams took part in an exercise carried out by EPAL, which simulated a general power failure at the Lisbon water company's premises in Parque das Nações.

The two companies have been collaborating within the framework of the National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction, so that all actions during disruptive events run as smoothly as possible.

Thus, in a simulated event in Parque das Nações, all the logistics and procedures to be taken into account in a real situation were tested. Once the power failure at the EPAL Pumping Station had been verified, E-REDES was notified to request an alternative power supply until the fault had been definitively resolved.

After checking the availability of the alternative supply, the E-REDES teams immediately activated it together with a team from EPAL's facilities in Av. de Berlim, Lisbon.

As this was a large alternative power supply (1250kVA generator), we also requested the support of the Public Security Police (PSP), who worked closely with us to make the journey in a short space of time.

When they arrived at the premises, our technical team, in conjunction with the EPAL team and Lisbon's Civil Protection, began work on connecting the cables that would alternatively feed EPAL's Pumping Station.

E-REDES and EPAL are once again cooperating to ensure the smooth running of the infrastructures.
