The Digital Academy for Parents, the result of a partnership with the Directorate-General for Education, promotes digital training for parents and guardians. The digital literacy project, which is now in its 4th edition, had 224 registered school groups from primary, secondary and secondary schools this year, and trained 731 classes.
From 2020 to 2023, in the first three editions, the Digital Academy for Parents covered 7674 families and had 3122 volunteer trainers.
The training sessions began in January 2024 and provide access to up to 24 hours of training, with the aim of enabling trainees to master the essentials of using a computer and the internet to support their children in keeping up with lessons or doing their homework. The offer includes a first module on Basic Digital Skills, a second on Digital Security and Citizenship and a third on Digital Consumerism. Knowledge that enables safe use of computers and the internet, as well as knowledge of how to manage electricity and water consumption online.
Attendance is free and the training sessions are face-to-face and of short duration, during after-work hours, in order to make it easier for parents or guardians to join in.
The participating schools mobilize teachers and young students who, on a voluntary basis, take on the role of trainers. The Digital Academy for Parents began in 2020, with the number of classes enrolled from the 1st to the 2nd edition more than doubling. The number of families and volunteers enrolled also more than tripled from 2020 to 2021. This is a project based on the conviction that digital citizenship is indispensable for social inclusion.
