E-REDES was distinguished in the National Sustainability Award, 2022 edition, with the project "20 Years of Protection of Birds in the Distribution Network".
The distinction, organized by the media group Cofina, took place last Friday, April 21st, in a ceremony held in Lisbon, where 21 awards were handed out in ten categories, from a total of 117 eligible applications.
The E-REDES project "20 Years of Protection of Avifauna in the Distribution Network", aimed to commemorate the two decades of the Program celebrated through protocols between the company and its partners, including governmental entities and NGO's.
These actions have been monitored since 2003 by the Technical Committee for Monitoring Power Lines and Birds - CTALEA - made up of E-REDES, the Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests (ICNF), Quercus, the Portuguese Society for the Study of Birds (SPEA) and, since 2013, also the League for the Protection of Nature (LPN).
Over the past 20 years, the company has been actively working to mitigate the impact of the overhead power grid on birdlife, especially on protected species. Among the measures implemented, highlight goes to the correction of 1,372 Km of HV and MV network, with solutions for the protection of avifauna in classified areas and the establishment of nine Avifauna Protocols.
These and other measures implemented over the last 20 years total an investment of 5 million euros.
The distinction now achieved is the recognition of a path that the company has traveled in order to combine its business with the preservation of Avifauna.
