E-REDES organizes conference on "Accelerating Flexibility Services in Electricity Distribution Networks"

The conference was held in partnership with the Expresso newspaper and took place at the Electricity Museum, in Lisbon, on March 23.

The event was attended by Ana Gouveia, Secretary of State for Energy and Climate, and José Ferrari Careto, President of E-REDES. This conference had as main objective to open the debate on this theme, counting with a number of specialists and representatives from other countries where the service is more advanced.

The FIRMe project is currently under development and it is through this project that E-REDES will test the potential of the flexibility market in Portugal. The purpose of this initiative is to "ask" consumers to consume less when the network is overloaded and, in exchange, receive a discount on the bill or value for the availability they present. E-Redes hopes to launch the first auction this summer to find consumers willing to offer this willingness to reduce consumption. However, there are still several issues to resolve, including regulatory ones.

E-REDES thus becomes a pioneer in Portugal in the energy flexibility market. This collaboration will help E-REDES get even closer to its sustainable goals, and is an important step towards the transformation of the national electricity system, enhancing the response to the most varied challenges.
