E-REDES connects new power plant in Setúbal

This connection represents an additional 20 MVA in the distribution network

E-REDES completed the connection of a new photovoltaic plant in the municipality of Setúbal to the electricity distribution network, allowing it to go into full operation last August 12. For this to be possible, it was necessary to build a 60 kV panel at the Algeruz Switchgear Post.

This connection represents an additional 20 MVA of renewable energy in the distribution network, with capacity to supply electricity to about 12 thousand homes. Taking into account that 55 percent of the municipalities in mainland Portugal have less than 12 thousand consumption facilities in Normal Low Voltage, this plant can supply cities such as Alcochete, Macedo de Cavaleiros, Mealhada, Amares, among others.

This is the third connection of a power plant to the distribution grid, operated by E-REDES, as part of the 2019 auctions. On May 11, a solar plant in Alandroal was connected, with 10 MVA, and on July 29, it was the turn of a photovoltaic plant in Soure, with 13 MVA.

With the connection of this additional power plant, E-REDES, in 2022, exceeded the installed power and the power connected to the distribution network, a total of 211 and 168 MVA respectively, surpassing the total figures for 2021, both in power and in the number of connections.

By the end of the year, E-REDES expects to conclude the connection of a significant number of new power plants, in an amount higher than the number already connected to date, which demonstrates the Company's commitment to the energy transition in the country.
