E-REDES refurbished 20 kilometres of Medium Voltage overhead lines in the municipality of Fundão. The interventions, which took place in the parishes of Bogas de Cima, Castelejo, Orca, Souto da Casa, Vale de Prazeres and Mata da Rainha, represented an investment of around 800 thousand euros.
In total, five Medium Voltage overhead lines were refurbished, using several types/sections of conductors: Aluminum-Steel of 30, 50 and 90 mm2, Aster (aluminium alloy) of 55mm2 and AACSR (aluminium reinforced steel) of 56 mm2, the latter installed in a line that crosses an ice zone for about four kilometres, with altitudes around 1000m, in the heart of the Regional Protected Landscape of Serra da Gardunha.
The characteristic topography of the region and the existence of a wide variety of birds of prey, with about 80 species recorded, required the installation of daytime flight signalling balls and bird protection devices (nesting deterrents and double coils) in some sections, to minimize the impact on species in the region. The slope of the slopes and the narrow paths proved to be a challenge for the execution of the work, and it was necessary to use a crane to place some poles.
These interventions, which took place over 11 months (June 2021 to March 2022), will bring a significant improvement in the quality of service in the municipality of Fundão, particularly with the increased reliability of the network.
For E-REDES, this procedure fits into its policy of optimizing the quality of service and energy efficiency, resulting from the commitment we assumed with the Municipality of Fundão
