E-REDES developed, in partnership with NTT Data, a technological solution that uses computational analysis of images captured by moving vehicles to identify situations where vegetation may pose a risk to the safety of the Low Voltage power grid.
With an extension of approximately 145 thousand km, 80 percent of which is an overhead network, Low Voltage represents a challenge for E-REDES. The Company has a duty to carry out maintenance and ensure the conservation and resilience of power lines, based on regular and methodical inspection, appropriate for monitoring the safety and operating conditions of the network. Whenever such inspections detect a risk situation caused by the proximity of vegetation to the grid, E-REDES alerts the owners, who have a duty to ensure that the trees on their land do not interfere with the operation of the power lines, and are willing to support the intervention so that it takes place safely. However, there are situations of imminent danger that require immediate action to restore the safety conditions of people and property and that lead E-REDES to intervene urgently.
Thanks to this proof of concept developed with the support of NTT Data, E-REDES hopes to have, in the near future, the possibility to use this type of technology, during its daily field surveillance actions, to identify, in a faster and more reliable way, situations that may represent some kind of danger and take the necessary measures to restore the safety of the Low Voltage power grid.
