The EDP Distribuição rebranding process was approved by the regulatory authority this Wednesday, August 12, and should be completed by January 31, 2021; there will be a transitional period until the end of next year to fully implement the rebranding project. The rebranding process will be gradual and will focus on infrastructure, stores, fleets, information systems, communication media, and protective equipment for operational staff on the ground.
Besides changing the name from EDP Distribuição to E-REDES, the new brand will also have a logo with the company's new name displayed in black against a yellow background. This new look, which will no longer share any chromatic or design elements with other companies within the EDP universe, will also highlight the identity and uniqueness of the distribution grid operator.
Until October, EDP Distribuição will submit the detailed rebranding project to the ERSE (Energy Services Regulatory Authority) in order to ensure that the transition to the new brand will take place without any disturbance to consumers, companies, dealers, local government institutions, and other organizations engaged with the company.
EDP Distribuição is the concessionaire of the high- and medium-voltage distribution grid in mainland Portugal and of low-voltage grids in all 278 Portuguese municipalities. Boasting about 6 million customers, the company provides electricity to 99.5% of all delivery locations in Portugal. As a grid operator, EDP Distribuição is present throughout mainland Portugal, managing 179,000 km of overhead lines and 49,000 km of underground grids. Over the past 16 years, the company has reduced the average service interruption time by about 86% and made a strong investment in the energy transition process.
E-REDES will offer the same quality service and operations nationwide through high-, medium- and low-voltage energy distribution concessions. The company will retain its commitment to the energy transition process and will continue to be a trusted brand, offering a quality, customer-focused service guided by a strong sense of social responsibility.
