In way to prevent electric accidents involving fishing rods, EDP Distribuição in conjunction with the Portuguese Federation of Sport Fishing (FPPD), took the initiative to promote a set of actions to raise awareness of the risks associated with an activity that sometimes takes place in places close to assets under tension.
It should be noted that the use of the new generation of fishing rods, with lengths greater than 10 m and built with conductive materials such as carbon, increases the electrical risk associated with the activity, even without direct contact with the asset under tension.
In this context, a communication plan was drawn up with the support of the Environment and Business Continuity Division and the Communication Office, and the layout of the signs to be placed on the ground and flyers to be made available to FPPD members were defined.
The location of Trofa, traversed by the River Ave, was chosen for the pilot implementation of this initiative, having previously obtained the respective agreement of C.M.Trofa.
The implementation of this signage is expected in the remaining facilities during 2020.
From the benchmarking carried out, it was found that the Transport and Distribution Networks of France had already developed a number of initiatives on this same issue in the past.
Through contact with FPPD, 14 areas of higher risk were identified at national level:
