EDP Distribuição promoted Olissipo - a Safety and Operational Live Exercise

The Olissipo Safety and Operational Live Exercise took place at Parque das Nações, in Lisbon, and aimed to test the responsiveness of EDP Distribuição teams and the collaboration with external entities to unforeseen and unexpected events in the electric grid.

The exercise took place on April 9 and counted on the collaboration of several entities such as the City Hall of Lisbon, Climaespaço, José Mello Saúde - Hospital CUF Descobertas, the Lisbon Oceanarium, the regiment of Firefighters of Lisbon, the Public Security Police, among others.

Carried out under the Operational Crisis Action Plan for the Distribution Grid (POAC-RD), which is intended to respond to exceptional events and crisis situations, the exercise began with the simulation of a fire in the substation of the Expo Norte that distributes Electric power to Medium voltage (MT) and low voltage (BT) customers from the eastern part of Lisbon city.

Considering that safety prevention is one of the basic principles of EDP Distribuição, more than testing the performance of the teams on the ground, the exercise was determinant to anticipate uncertainty and threat, reduce risk, evidence the fragilities in response capacity and strengthen articulation with the entities responsible for protection and intervention in crisis scenarios. The development of strategies for articulation and adaptation of the different sectors contributed to increase the adaptability to climate change and reinforce the urban resilience of the communities.

Watch the report and follow us through the four key moments:

  1. Fire in the Expo Norte substation and simulation of the interruption of the supply of electricity to the park of Nations area;
  2. Installation of an emergency generator at a processing station to restore electricity supply to a customer with special needs;
  3. Request for support from the CUF Hospital discoveries following a failure to start the emergency generator from the new building of that health unit;
  4. Installation of a mobile generation center at a transformation station of the Ocean Mall for the replenishment of the energy supply in that area.
