Status report - Storm Leslie

Despite positive developments, EDP Distribuição continues to declare a state of emergency, as very difficult situations remain in some areas of the country that need to be overcome before normal electricity supply can be resumed.

The number of consumers without power continues to decline from the peak of more than 300,000 on Sunday morning, and is now around 60,000 customers, most of whom are in the Coimbra district and Louriçal in the district of Pombal. Power lines in Lavos/Louriçal/Soure remain out of service.

EDP Distribuição has more than 750 staff in the field who are working closely with security and civil protection agencies and local authorities to identify the most critical situations with a view to implementing mitigating measures, including the installation of generators to provide power.

Around 80 emergency generators and two mobile power stations have been installed to guarantee priority consumption (lift stations, health centres, homes, schools). The company and the National Civil Protection Authority have called on the armed forces to help install generators.

Repairs have been completed at a positive pace, with about 71 high and medium voltage lines remaining out of service as a result of damaged overhead poles, particularly in localities supplied by the Louriçal and Soure substations.

EDP Distribuição remains committed to restoring normal energy supply as quickly as possible and to overcome the serious consequences Storm Leslie – one of the most damaging storms to affect Portugal - has had on its infrastructure.
