Further to the declaration of a state of emergency, EDP Distribuição has increased its field operations, with about 750 operations currently under way.
In the meantime, 70 emergency generators and two mobile power stations have been installed to ensure the supply of power to priority locations (lift stations, homes, schools) in collaboration with the local authorities. In this context, the company and the National Civil Protection Authority, has called on the Portuguese Army to help install generators.
Currently, the number customers without power has been decreasing, with the Coimbra district and the Louriçal area in Pombal remaining most affected, while there is also a situation requiring attention in the municipality of Mealhada.
There has been a positive evolution in the restoration of power, although it has not progressed at the desired pace because of the extensive damage caused to the distribution grid, which means a large part of the grid needs to be rebuilt. There are still 100 high and medium voltage lines reported to be inoperable as a result of damaged overhead poles, particularly in the localities supplied from Louriçal and Soure substations.
EDP Distribuição is making every effort to restore the supply of power as quickly as possible in the areas affected by Storm Leslie, especially in the district of Coimbra.
Currently, EDP Distribuição has a state of emergency in the district of Coimbra, and restates that it is cooperating with all the bodies involved in such situations, in particular with civil protection agencies and the local authorities affected by the storm, and is in permanent contact with the IPMA to obtain up-to-date information.
