EDP Distribuição breaks the Service Quality record in 2015

In 2015, EDP Distribuição achieved the best ever result in terms of Service Quality, demonstrating the success of the investment policy that has been developed by the Company with the consequent reduction of asymmetries in the electricity grid that achieved, in national terms, a reliability level of 99.99%.

The value for EIT (Equivalent Interruption Time) supply continuity indicator was 54 minutes in 2015 and represents an improvement of around 70% in service quality in mainland Portugal over the last decade.

Likewise, SAIDI, another indicator used internationally to compare the efficiency of grid operators, places EDP Distribuição in the group with the best results among European counterparts. The same evolution in service quality was registered in each of the 6 Grid and Customer Departments - North, Porto, Centre, Tejo, Lisbon and South - the Company’s operational structures, demonstrating the reduction of asymmetries obtained throughout the country. The mark achieved is a consequence of a policy of continued investment in the electricity distribution grids, which has been around EUR 4 billion since 2000, focused on improving the distribution grid through the maintenance, modernization and construction of new infrastructures.

The investment in recent years in the automation of the grid’s command and supervision, integrated in the inovgrid project, the smart grid project of EDP Distribuição, is an investment of particular note. In 2015, in addition to several redesign and expansion works, 6 new substations were built and connected to the grid (Arcos de Valdevez, Meimoa, Alcobaça, Vila Châ/Barreiro, Barcarena and Viana do Alentejo), 1382 km of high, medium and low voltage lines were built and 344 new transformation stations constructed. The electricity distribution grid currently has 419 substations, around 220,000 km of lines and 70,000 transformation stations.
