Prevention and Safety
Work in the vicinity of the power grid
Works on public roads carried out near overhead lines can lead to hazardous situations.
Risk situations
- Use of machinery and cranes: The higher it rises, the higher the risk of hitting a power line. Respect the safety distances and avoid accidents.
- Cutting down trees: Cutting down a tree can damage a power line. Always check that the tree or branches don't hit anything when they fall.
- Scaffolding or work on roofs: When erecting scaffolding or carrying out work on scaffolding or roofs, keep a safe distance from power lines.
What precautions you should take:
- Comply with E-REDES recommendations regarding the distances to be maintained between the line conductors and any component of the crane or load:
- 3 meters, for voltage lines up to 60 kV.
- 5 meters, for voltage lines above 60 kV.
- Wherever possible, fit limit switches to moving parts whose movement could cause the machine or load to enter the forbidden area delimited by the distances mentioned above.
- In the case of machines in occasional transit under the line, with the boom down, unladen and always under the supervision of a foreman, the following minimum distances can be accepted:
- 1.5 meters for voltage lines below 60 kV.
- 3 meters for voltage lines between 60 kV and 220 kV.
- In the case of frequent crossings, the maximum height should be preventively marked.
- Any conductor in an electrical line must be considered to be live at all times, unless there is a written indication from an E-REDES representative confirming that its conductors have no voltage and have been earthed.
- Regardless of this indication, whenever a line not live, to be considered as such, its conductors must be earthed close to the work site.
