This entity was set up after the proposal of the European Commission (Regulation (EU) 2019/943) and is a recognition of the fundamental role that electricity distribution networks play in the energy transition process.
Cooperation between Transmission (TSO) and Distribution System Operators (DSO) is key to manage increased variability in the electricity system, enable customer choice and leverage the potential provided by new market participants.
E-REDES is one of the DSO cooperating with the EU DSO Entity in the fulfilment of the respective legal mandates in the interest of European consumers and society, having Luís Cunha (Director of European Policies and Projects) as its representative on the Board of Directors.
With a busy agenda, the Association's tasks include, among others, promoting the operation and planning of DSO/TSO networks; facilitating the integration in DSOs grid of Renewable, Distributed Energy Resources and storage; developing flexibility and distribution grid users’ access to markets; contributing to the digitalization of distribution systems (deployment of smart grids and smart meters); supporting the development of data management, cyber security and data protection and participating in the elaboration of Network Codes which are relevant for DSO grids.
This new cycle, which begins with the creation of the EU DSO Entity, represents an additional step in claiming the centrality of DSOs in the European panorama and in the climate and energy transition, this time in a more operational scope, which aims to complement the work that has been developed at the level of the E.DSO (European Distribution System Operators) and the cooperation platforms with the remaining interlocutors, in particular with TSOs.
E-REDES welcomes the EU DSO Entity and is looking forward to a fruitfully cooperation.
