With the introduction of remote management of these equipments, the need to communicate readings and invoicing based on estimates will end.
E-REDES surpassed the 4 million mark for installed smart meters, which means coverage of two-thirds of customers in mainland Portugal. Of this total, 3.1 million devices are already in Telemanagement - more than half of the total existing meters - allowing for automatic data collection, relieving consumers of the need to send readings and enabling the suppliers to issue invoices without recourse to estimates or adjustments.
Thanks to these smart meters, consumers will be able to monitor their energy profile and adjust their electricity consumption, and E-REDES technicians will not need to travel to perform service orders or to collect readings, thus contributing to greater convenience and efficiency, as well as reducing the environmental footprint. In 2021 alone, with the installed park, it was possible to avoid the emission of more than 1.6 tons of CO2.
This reality also implies benefits for suppliers and energy service companies, which will be able to offer their customers services and price plans adapted to consumption profiles and needs, constituting a fundamental element of the energy transition.
