E-REDES has been replacing meters throughout the country with new smart metering equipment. With the installation of the latest smart meters, we are calling on all Customers who do not yet have a smart meter to contact us via the 218 100 100 phone number or via the website, in order to schedule the replacement of the meter, and to ensure that someone with access to the site is present.
This appeal is aimed at domestic Customers with vacation homes, or who are away for long periods, or who have addresses that are difficult to access. The same applies to business Customers whose technical premises are typically unoccupied or premises where it is not possible to interrupt the electricity supply during working hours.
The installation of smart meters is a crucial step in the transformation of the electricity sector in Portugal, allowing for more efficient energy management, promoting better energy habits, helping to reduce the carbon footprint and contributing to the elimination of estimated bills, as well as allowing the Customer to no longer be present for the vast majority of remote activation and contract change services.
According to Luís Filipe Pereira, Director of Smart Grid Operations, “when we provide a distribution network with the ability to manage energy flows flexibly and obtain information on its status at each location and time, we create a Smart Grid with the potential to make the electricity system more efficient, sustainable and with better quality of service.”
E-REDES has already exceeded the target of 6 million smart meters installed across the country by 2024, which represents coverage of around 94% of Customers in mainland Portugal. However, our goal is to reach all Customers in mainland Portugal by the end of the year. Meeting this target reinforces our commitment to quality of service and the energy transition.
