E-REDES reaches 5 million integrated smart meters

Remote management of this equipment allows remote readings and billing is no longer based on estimates.

E-REDES has passed the milestone of 5 million smart meters with active remote services, which means coverage of 80% of customers in mainland Portugal. In total, there are 5.5 million smart meters installed and 90% of the equipment is already in remote management, allowing automatic data collection, relieving consumers of sending readings and allowing suppliers to issue invoices without resorting to estimates or adjustments.

With smart meters, consumers can monitor their energy profile and adjust their electricity consumption without E-REDES technicians having to go on site to carry out service orders or collect readings. This equipment also makes it possible for customers who want to do so to switch to self-consumption.

"E-REDES is contributing to greater convenience and efficiency of service for consumers, as well as reducing the environmental footprint. With the current installed fleet of smart meters, it is estimated that CO2 emissions will be reduced by more than 2,190 tons by 2023," says José Ferrari Careto, Chairman of the Board of Directors of E-REDES.

Retailers and energy service companies will also benefit from these 5 million telemanaged meters, as they will give customers access to services and price plans tailored to their consumption profiles and needs.

E-REDES maintains its goal of having 100% of smart meters installed in Portuguese homes by the end of 2024.
