2.5 million investment in Guimarães

E-REDES invests 2.5 million euros in the remodelling of the Guimarães Substation and its High and Medium Voltage network

The remodelling works of the Guimarães Substation and respective high (HV) and medium (MV) voltage network were concluded, as part of the Company's HV/MV Asset Renovation and Rehabilitation investment program.

Put into service in 1959, the Guimarães Substation has been subject to several maintenance and remodelling works throughout its life, ensuring the proper operation of this infrastructure and the growth of loads that has been verified over the years. The intervention now carried out was, however, a profound restructuring of the facility's typology, preparing it to meet the challenges of energy transition. The work involved an investment volume of 2.5 million Euros, with the following highlights

  • The replacement of the three 20 MVA HV/MV Power Transformers with two 31.5 MVA HV/MV Power Transformers;
  • The substitution of the equipment installed in the Exterior Switchgear Park by state-of-the-art technology consisting of armored hybrid modules, making the installation more robust;
  • The substitution of the Medium Voltage Metallic Board, for new state-of-the-art equipment, which allows for a more effective operation of the MV network;
  • The replacement of the classic Protection and Command Systems by a digital Protection, Command and Control System, thus allowing for greater sensitivity and selectivity in detecting and eliminating defects that may occur in the network;
  • The remodelling of the substation's Command Building and the partial burial of HV and MV lines, significantly improving the landscape setting of the installation.

As this is a substation with a heavy industrial load, it was necessary to use Medium Voltage Mobile Resource Units, commonly known as mobile substations, to ensure the continuity of the electricity supply during the eighteen months of construction.
