E-REDES installs new mobile generator on Lighthouse Island

New infrastructure has a power of 400 kVA

E-REDES installed a new mobile generator on the island of Farol, in Faro. This equipment, with an investment of around 55 thousand euros, will replace the previous one, which was at the end of its useful life and will work as a back up for the Low Voltage (LV) network.

The new generator now installed has a power of 400 kVA, which considerably increases the available capacity in relation to the previous one, which had 300 kVA.

The island of Farol/Culatra is fed by a 15 kV Medium Voltage (MV) underwater cable that, since the early 90s of last century, has crossed between the Armona Islands and the island of Farol/Culatra, taking electricity to this island and to the lighthouse.

Because it is an island, the work to install this new generator required major procedures, such as loading the generator onto a barge in the commercial port of Faro, the arrival of the barge on the island, the transport of the generator to the vicinity of the Distribution Transformer Station (PTD) there, using an excavator, and finally the installation and connection of the new equipment to the Distribution Transformer Station (PTD).

The work now carried out, with an investment of about 55 thousand euros, translates into an added value for the supply of electricity to the island.
