Over 100 schools open doors to families for digital training

The Digital Academy for Parents, a project of EDP Distribuição in partnership with the General Direction of Education, is working with more than a hundred schools throughout the country to ensure that parents and guardians have access to minimum digital skills that allow them to accompany their children in distance learning.

In the start-up phase, 60 groups have joined the initiative, representing a potential universe of participants from 118 1st and 2nd cycle schools with around 40,000 students enrolled.

These schools have now started the promotion phase with families, who have until December 18 to enroll in the Digital Academy for Parents. The start of the training sessions is scheduled for January 2021.

The in-person training sessions will last a total of eight hours and will be developed by teachers and young volunteer students from the adherent schools.

The trainees will be entitled to participation prizes, namely school material and food baskets.

The target schools of the initiative are located in Educational Territories of Priority Intervention (TEIP). This classification covers areas with greater social and economic fragility, scattered throughout the country. In the universe of participating schools, the North stands out with 29 groups registered. Next are the schools of Lisbon and Tagus Valley, with 16, the Alentejo with six, the Algarve with four and the Centre with five groupings".

The Digital Academy for Parents is based on the conviction that digital citizenship is indispensable for social inclusion, particularly in the current situation of health and economic crisis, and therefore it is essential to train parents with the need to develop their digital skills.
