EDP Distribuição delivered a forest fire prevention vehicle to the Associação Humanitária de Bombeiros Mistos de Alcácer do Sal.
This initiative, part of the "Donate to Protect" program, aims to support institutions that develop activities in forest protection, vegetation clearing, or even reforestation.
The delivery of this vehicle is part of the annual vehicle donation program of EDP Distribuição, established for the year 2020, which totals 16 vehicles belonging to its fleet, with an investment value of around 150 thousand euros.
This program is in its fourth edition and has already donated 85 vehicles that have allowed to meet the pressing needs of municipalities and local communities, namely firefighters and municipal services of forest sappers, enabling the response in safeguarding the forest, the lives and property of the population they serve together.
"As part of its social investment policy, EDP Distribuição has, for several years, been developing initiatives to reach out to citizens and local entities. Today's delivery to the Associação de Bombeiros Voluntária de Alcácer do Sal, is an example of this relationship that we maintain, highlighting the proximity and importance that the company gives to the role of institutions in society and cooperation with the Company, particularly on issues such as vegetation management," said João Torres, chairman of EDP Distribuição.
The ceremony, which took place at the headquarters of the Associação Humanitária de Bombeiros Mistos de Alcácer do Sal, was attended by João Torres, Chairman of the Board of Directors of EDP Distribuição, António Sanches, Director of the Board of Directors of Autarquias Sul, and Luis Freitas, responsible for the Alentejo Maintenance of the MT/BT Asset Service.
The Mayor of Alcácer do Sal, Vitor Proença, as well as the President of the Humanitarian Firefighters Association, José Passos, were present to receive the vehicle.
As the operator of an air network 179 thousand kilometers long, 28 thousand of which are installed in forest areas, EDP Distribuição is present throughout the continental territory.
In the last 12 years, it has invested a total of 88 million Euros in vegetation management, of which 16 million relate to this year's investment.
Inspection and intervention actions in the protection zones and fuel management strips along the power lines involve around 500 people, including internal and external employees, and the application of best practices in monitoring and vegetation management (from thermographic inspections of the lines using helicopter and drone flights, to the development of a feature in the APP that allows any citizen to report situations of proximity to vegetation).
