EDP Distribuição has an ongoing campaign to install 143,428 LED luminaries throughout the country, by the end of this year, with a total investment of 18 million euros. Thanks to this investment, it will be possible to reduce more than 11 thousand tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions to the atmosphere.
This measure aims to replace obsolete luminaires with Mercury Vapor and High Pressure Sodium Vapor technologies with LED luminaires.
Through this campaign, EDP Distribuição continues its strategy of modernizing the distribution network and adopting new technologies, essential to the energy transition and decarbonization.
This initiative reinforces the Company's and the municipalities' commitment to energy efficiency and intelligent network management, with a clear improvement in the quality of service, and will extend to the complete replacement of the three million luminaries in the national public lighting system.
The adoption of LED technology in public spaces, supported by more intelligent public lighting systems developed by EDP Distribuição, allows for more sustainable consumption, with considerable gains in energy efficiency and a reduction in the ecological footprint.
