EUniversal Kick Off

The H2020 european project Euniversal, led by EDP Distribuição, kicked off in Lisbon, on February 10.

The EUniversal project has the participation of 18 international partners, from 7 different nationalities, including members of distribution system operators (DSO) from Portugal, Germany and Poland, universities, research and consultancy centers, market platforms, aggregators, among others.

With an expected duration of 42 months and a global budget of 9.8 million euros, the project will develop and implement an innovative concept of a Universal and Interoperable Interface to articulate the electrical system's operating needs with the offers in the flexibility market, clearing the way for the definition of solutions that can be used throughout Europe.

The event took place in Lisbon, at EDP's headquarters, and was attended by the European Commission's project manager, representatives of the various partners and some guests.

João Torres, Chairman of the Board of Directors of EDP Distribuição, opened the session by welcoming the participants and enhancing the importance of this kind of initiative wich answers the energy transition challenges, in particular, in strengthening the role of the DSO, market agents and, mainly, consumers, who are the central element in the adoption of sustainable behaviors and in the provision of flexibility associated with their resources.

EUniversal, like other European projects in which EDP Distribuição is represented, is part of the Horizon 2020 Program (H2020), the Community framework program for research and innovation and the European Union's largest instrument specifically aimed at supporting research and innovation, mainly through the co-financing of research, technological development, demonstration and innovation projects.
