Strong winds and falling trees affect electricity grid in the center of the country

The strong gusts of wind, associated with the Glória depression, caused significant damage to the electricity grid, initially and during the early morning mainly in the districts of Castelo Branco and Guarda and on Monday morning in Coimbra and Viseu, leading to the interruption of the power supply.

At this moment, the municipalities of Castro de Aire, Pampilhosa da Serra and Mangualde are the most affected, with 28 inoperative Medium Voltage lines, the great majority due to falling trees.

In view of the weather conditions and its impact on the electricity grid, EDP Distribuição activated its Crisis Operation Plan, mobilizing 150 operations, supported by 100 vehicles, for the resolution of all malfunctions and consequent replacement of the electricity supply.
The consolidation work will continue, although it is expected that most of the situations identified will be overcome by the end of today. The supply of the most critical cases is being ensured using 25 generators installed by the Company.

EDP Distribuição is committed to the rapid standardisation of the electricity supply service, in close liaison with the local and national safety and civil protection authorities.
