Baptista Pereira champion honored at Alhandra

The tribute was made through an urban art mural in a transformation and sectioning post of EDP Distribuição, in Loures.

Joaquim Baptista Pereira (1921-1984), was an internationally renowned swimmer. Born in Alhandra (Vila Franca de Xira, Lisbon), he was recently the target of another tribute, this time in an EDP Distribuição asset.

If you walk along Miguel Bombarda Street in Alhandra, in a south-north direction, you will see the work of art finished by artist Vile (Rodrigo Nunes, born in Vila Franca de Xira in September 1984, about three months after the death of Baptista Pereira).

The completion of the work was made possible by the interaction of the Union of Parishes of Alhandra, São João dos Montes and Calhandriz with EDP Distribuição.

The Transformation Post, positioned in an excellent place by the river, considered the gateway to the village, has become the recipient of one of the murals of urban art with which the municipality intends to illustrate Alhandra, in order to perpetuate figures of local and national relevance.
