More color and energy at Baleal

New Transformation and Distribution Post improves the quality of service and landscape design of the Baleal Peninsula (Peniche).

The Baleal Peninsula is even more emblematic. Resulting from a partnership with the Municipality of Peniche, the Portuguese Environment Agency and the General Direction for Energy and Geology, EDP Distribuição promoted an artistic intervention in Baleal's new Transformation and Distribution Post.

The illustration, by the artist Marcelo António Caetano Gomes, refers to the “camper” (iconic van of the 1950s) and to the “surf” (iconographic sports practice of the municipality of Peniche), thus contributing to for a better landscape framing of Baleal Island.

The intervention is part of a project that EDP Distribuição is undertaking to improve the quality of technical service in Baleal peninsula, through the construction of a new PTD, and the installation of 1.4 km special medium 15 kV voltage cable, designed for very high groundwater levels, on the crossing that connects the mainland to the island.

The new Transformation Post, which will feed about 200 customers, was designed to withstand the high salinity environment to which it is subjected.

The project, which is expected to last until the end of November, enables the increase of available power capacity in Baleal Island, thus responding to the need for increased loads due to the remodeling of existing houses there.
