As part of the “Donate to Protect” program, which is part of the Social Investment Plan, on July 19, EDP Distribuição delivered a forest fire prevention vehicle to the Humanitarian Association of Voluntary Firefighters of Mação.
This program, which aims to support institutions that develop initiatives in forest protection, vegetation clearing, or even reforestation, promoted the donation of the vehicle that belonged to EDP Distribuição's fleet, a Mitsubishi L200.
“Those who walk on the ground like us understand the firefighters' difficulties and that makes us think of them when we consider this kind of support. EDP Distribuição plays a decisive role in being close to the populations, municipalities and fire brigades, so we thought that, in the renewal of our fleet, we could highlight a set of vehicles that are still in good condition for us. in the coming years, help the fire brigade and civil protection structures, ”said João Torres, President of EDP Distribuição. The ceremony, which took place at the Mação Volunteer Fire Station, was attended by Vasco Estrela (Mayor of Mação), José António Martins (President of the Mação Volunteer Firefighters Association), and Pedro Jana (Commander of the Volunteer Firefighters of Macao).
EDP Distribuição, in the defense and protection of forest heritage, manages 68,000 km of airlines (of which more than 28,000 km in forest spaces), having invested a total of 72 million euros over the last 11 years. , of this amount, 11 million euros refer to 2019.
Inspection and intervention actions in the protection zones and fuel management bands along the power lines involve around 500 people, including internal and external collaborators, and the application of best monitoring and vegetation management practices (from inspections lines through helicopter flights and drones, until the development of a feature in the APP that allows any citizen to report situations of proximity to the vegetation).
