The main objective of the contest promoted by EDP Distribuição is the preservation of biodiversity and natural heritage, encouraging national reforestation.
In 2019, the Preserve Nature Program will focus its activities on burning areas and, for this reason, the contest is open to the districts most affected by the fires of 2017 and 2018: Coimbra, Guarda, Castelo Branco, Viseu, Leiria, Santarém and Faro.

As co-financier, EDP Distribuição supports the projects presented, financing the purchase of the trees up to a maximum of € 25,000 per application, and the municipalities will be responsible for managing the remaining costs, namely execution, land preparation, reforestation and project monitoring.
