Over the course of eleven days, the two employees of EDP Distribuição conducted the survey of energy needs on the area, side by side with the Mozambique Electricity Company (EDM) and the national authorities, helping in the recovery of infrastructures and ensuring the electrical energy at the INEM field Hospital, which is prepared to provide medical assistance to the victims.
EDP Distribuição also provided 15 generators and material to support the reconstruction and establishment of the electricity supply.
"To Beira, we sent technicians and generators who supplied electricity to a field hospital and the civil protection intervention command post. I would like to highlight the work of the technicians. Our nature is unique because we are not the civil protection, nor firemen. We are a private company that provides public service to Portugal and, therefore, I am very proud of our people" said João Marques da Cruz, EDP administrator who was present at the reception at Figo Maduro airport.
Integrating a delegation of 57 members, the two professionals from EDP Distribuição were received in the national territory by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Eduardo Cabrita. This group also included volunteers and professional firefighters from the special fire department, members of the GNR Protection and Relief Intervention Group (GIPS) accompanied by six dogs, specialists from the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM) and Civil Protection.
