On November 8-9, EDP Distribuição and the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) held a transatlantic workshop on mutual assistance and extreme events, which was attended by utilities from North America and Europe.
The Edison Electric Institute (EEI) is an association representing all electricity utilities held by US investors. In addition to its members in the US, 60 international electricity utilities and hundreds of suppliers in the industry and related organizations are associates of the EEI.
The EEI encourages mutual assistance between electricity grid operators, to ensure Grid System Operators are better qualified. At the workshop we shared our experiences with mutual assistance and thought about how synergies between companies can be created at the national, Iberian and European level can be developed to ensure mutual assistance in crisis situations.
We discussed crisis management practices and experiences during extreme events, covering such topics as business continuity, mutual assistance, risk management, new technologies, and communication strategies.
EDP Distribuição always seeks best practice, and since the distribution grid is an essential social infrastructure, it is essential to have structures that can respond rapidly and effectively in crisis situations, including mutual assistance structures, in place.
