SENSIBLE project featured at "Cleantech Capital Day"

The SENSIBLE project was selected by the European Commission as an innovative energy project to be presented at Cleantech Capital Day on 22 and 23 May in Malmo, Sweden. Cleantech Capital Day is one of the most important events in Sustainable Innovation, bringing together 200 professionals: industry, investors, the public sector and start-ups.

SENSIBLE was chosen by the European Commission to be presented at this event as a project that is developing solutions in key and priority areas of the European Union, in terms of research and development, such as energy storage, making it possible to save on energy consumed and the more efficient and reliable management of the electricity grid. SENSIBLE is a large international project with a 15 million euro budget, involving 15 partners from 6 European countries (Portugal, Spain, France, United Kingdom, Germany and Finland).

The main goal of the project is to explore the benefits of using energy storage technologies in homes, communities, commercial buildings and even in power grids to ensure a more sustainable supply of energy as well as to reduce grid power losses. EDP Distribuição is one of the four Portuguese companies that are part of the project consortium, together with EDP Labelec, INESC TEC and Siemens Portugal. EFACEC with Withus also provide services for this project.

In Portugal, the project is focused on demonstrating the benefits of integrating battery systems into the distribution grid and residential self-consumption solutions. The flexibility of this system benefits both the grid operator and the consumer, through new business models and market mechanisms. The self-consumption solutions that incorporate solar panels, battery systems and thermo-accumulators installed in Valverde in August 2017, allowed homes and commercial establishments to achieve 20% energy savings in nine months.
