Results of the UPGRID project in Portugal

EDP ​​Distribuição, together with NOS, presented the results of the UPGRID project in Parque das Nações. As part of the Horizon 2020 European energy programme, the UPGRID project had 19 partners from 7 European countries and 4 demonstrators - Portugal, Spain, Sweden and Poland.

 

This project, developed by a European consortium, aimed to develop and demonstrate innovative solutions for the operational implementation and advanced operation of smart electricity distribution grids. EDP ​​Distribuição coordinated the UPGRID demonstration component in the Portuguese demonstrator, located in Parque das Nações, Lisbon, between January 2015 and December 2017 The total project budget was more than EUR 15 million.

The Parque das Nações demonstrator involved more than:

• 13,000 consumers,

• 150 transformation stations (PTs),

• 10 electric vehicle charging stations (VE)

• 700 public lighting poles (IP) covered by more than 20 functionalities tested in the project covering all areas of development of the European initiative for Research, Development and Demonstration (RD&D) in the field of grids

– European Electricity Grid Initiative (EEGI):

(i) smart consumers

(ii) integration of distributed resources

(iii) grid planning

(iv) grid operation and

(v) market design.

The results of this pilot project were presented at a session held in March, which was attended by more than 50 people from the various stakeholders in the Portuguese demonstrator.
