Tornado in the Sotavento Algarvio region

The 4 March tornado in the Sotovento region of Algarve caused considerable damage to the distribution grid.

The substation located in the Faro area was hit by wind-blown metal objects and is therefore partially damaged, and some medium voltage pylons are also broken. In other words, the objects carried by the wind that hit our lines and the Torre Natal substation in Faro were the main cause of the damages to these assets.

The EDP Distribuição teams made the necessary repairs to restore the normal supply of electricity to customers in some locations in Olhão and Faro. I

n spite of the many low voltage posts and public lighting lamps that were felled or broken, the service was restored during the morning of 5 March at 03:30.
