EDP Distribuição informs that the bad weather that struck during the night and dawn today, mainly in the northern region of the country, caused significant damage to the electricity grid. Immediately, about 170 operational staff were sent to the field, which despite the travel difficulties in the region, a lot of wind, rain, snow and ice, were able to repair the damages that prevented the normal supply of energy to Sabrosa, Ribeira de Pena and Pinhel.
The restoration of the service has been carried out progressively, as the work has been completed, in close collaboration with the Civil Protection Authority and the GNR police force, namely the clearing of the roads that have allowed the teams to travel about.
About 10 generators are already connected to the grid and others are on the way to the places where repairs are more time consuming. At this time there are still some areas of the municipalities of Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo, Tarouca, Lamego, Aguiar da Beira, Tabuaço, S. João da Pesqueira and Sernancelhe.
Despite the severity of the damage caused by the storm, we estimate that all customers will be supplied with power today.
NOTE: We warn all persons in areas affected by the storm that they must not touch any broken lines for safety reasons, and also to take care with the use of generators in poorly ventilated areas since their improper use may lead to gas poisoning.
