EDP Distribuição expects to normalize electricity supply on Friday

The recent fires in the central zone of the country caused significant damage to EDP Distribuição's grids. The severity was much higher than in June in the Pedrogão fires. Six substations were damaged and 40 medium voltage lines have since been repaired by the end of yesterday.

In the low voltage grid, 13 transformation stations and about 100 km of lines scattered about each region were destroyed, with particular impact on several localities in the municipalities of:

Santa Comba Dão, Tondela, Vouzela, Oliveira de Frades, Oliveira do Hospital, Tábua, Arganil, Pampilhosa, Góis, Mortágua, Vila Nova de Poiares, Sertã, and Oleiros.

The reconstruction work has been carried out with the significant mobilization of 800 operational staff, supported by 150 vehicles, some posted from other areas of the country. EDP Distribuição maintains the forecast made on Tuesday, of having the power supply restored to the majority of customers by the end of Friday.

In the more time-consuming repair situations, 40 emergency generators are installed. EDP Distribuição highlights the excellent cooperation of local authorities in particular in the assistance provided in identifying the most critical situations.

Once again, we alert all people in the regions affected by the fires not to touch any fallen power lines, for safety reasons, and also to take care with the use of generators in poorly ventilated places since their improper use may lead to gas poisoning.
