EDP Distribuição on the ground: electricity grid destroyed by fires restored by the end of the day

EDP Distribuição maintains the expectation, already announced, of completing the recovery of the medium voltage electricity grid destroyed by the fires by the end of today. In places where repairs are more difficult and time consuming, 23 generators have been installed.

Two mobile power stations are also connected to the grid, which provide power to the industrial area of Arganil and the town of Loriga. The travel difficulties on roads are still a hindrance, particularly in the area of Pampilhosa da Serra and Oliveira do Hospital. Work will continue on the low voltage grid over the next few days, which also has very significant damage in scattered places, in particular in the district of Coimbra. Air resources available for faster reconnaissance and location of damage will be used as soon as visibility conditions permit.

EDP Distribuição maintains 600 operational staff on the ground that continue to work in liaison with local authorities, the Civil Protection Authority and firefighters. We also alert all persons in areas affected by the fires not to touch any fallen power lines for safety reasons and also to take care with using generators in poorly ventilated areas since their improper use may lead to gas poisoning.
