The reinforcement of mobile electronic communications coverage in the Peneda Gerês Natural Park is one of the 11 measures of the pilot plan for the prevention of forest fires and enhancement and recovery of natural habitats. The local population, visitors and rescue teams can communicate and be connected with the world from this summer.
Environment Minister Matos Fernandes stressed at the protocol signing ceremony that "this is only possible with the partnership of municipalities, but essentially with the telecommunications operators, PT, Meo, NOS and Vodafone, and EDP Distribuição." EDP Distribuição, represented by its director Ângelo Sarmento, undertakes to execute all the low voltage electrical connections of the Telecommunication Stations to the existing electricity grid at the location, thus ensuring they receive power.
