Investments in the electricity grid reinforce the quality of service in the municipality of Oeiras

EDP Distribuição inaugurated the Barcarena Substation on 26 September, at a ceremony attended by: Carlos Almeida, General Director of Energy and Geology; António Martins da Costa, EDP Director; João Torres, Chairman of the Board of Directors of EDP Distribuição and Paulo Vistas, Mayor of Oeiras.

This new electrical infrastructure, located in the industrial zone of Queluz de Baixo, reinforces the electricity supply and improves the quality of service provided by EDP Distribuição to the municipality of Oeiras. It is an urban design substation with an installed capacity of 40 MVA. About 3 km of high and medium voltage grid were also built, allowing the new substation to be connected to the existing grid in its immediate vicinity. Also taken into consideration in the construction of this infrastructure were concerns regarding its integration in the surrounding area.

This technical infrastructure incorporates state-of-the-art technological solutions. It is equipped with the most modern protection, command and control system, designed for this type of equipment. Its entry into service will have a significant impact on the improvement of the technical service quality of the zone, guaranteeing a greater availability of power to satisfy new points of consumption, and also giving a greater robustness to the electricity distribution grid in the area of Oeiras municipality. The works carried out represent, as a whole, an investment of about EUR 5 million.
