GridWise

GridWise is a flagship project in the E-REDES strategy and a pioneer at European level in the modernization of the way low-voltage (LV) networks are managed.

As more distributed energy resources are connected to the Distribution Network, management complexity is becoming evident, especially in Low Voltage (LV). These challenges can be addressed by providing the LV network with adequate levels of visibility and controllability, as is already the case with Medium and High Voltage. However, the volume of data and devices connected to the LV network is exponentially higher, and this development has been postponed by most European Distribution Network Operators. This context led E-REDES to launch the GridWise project, which combines IT and OT technology to monitor E-REDES' transformer substations in 6 use cases:

  1. Monitoring of low-voltage circuits for early detection of faults or situations that compromise the power supply;
  2. Monitoring of power quality parameters and creation of wave quality reports in accordance with applicable international standards;
  3. Automatic mapping and creation of the network topology, identifying the phase and output of the transformer stations to which each smart meter is connected;
  4. Calculation of technical losses in the network, allowing relevant insights to be obtained for planning and investment in the network;
  5. Calculation of non-technical losses in the network, namely situations of theft and/or fraud;
  6. Monitoring of the physical loss of the neutral conductor.
